Friday, June 08, 2007 just came back from the ncc camp. the following schools were involved: fuhua boon lay sec cresent kent ridge acs(i) yuhua pukit panjang govt and some others in which i can't remember. overall, i had quite a fun time looking at how they behave and stuff. it was rather interesting looking at how they do their drills and how they try to volunteer to do stuffs in order to get noticed by the ltcs and me. there were a total or 6 platoons and i took the 3rd one. i started talking to them only on the 2 night because there wasn't an appropriate time for me to do so. i initiated a talk like "how many of u dun have water bottles, i'll go out and get it for u." it was quite retarded but at least it worked. they went on to tell me to buy coke, 100 plus that kinda things instead of normal mineral water. anyway, i bought 6 1.5L of flavored drinks for them and spent $24 because my friend borrowed money from me to get it for his platoon as well. hmm, to exchange for like the last 2 days of friendship, i thought it was rather worth it. after i gave them the drinks, they started to open up to me and asked me alot of questions about their tests tomorrow and also to clarify their doubts which they previously told me that they had no questions at all. we spent around 1 hr discussing about it at the training shed and just when we were about to sleep, they asked me to go to their bunk at night to tell them ghost stories. i, of all people ain't very keen on ghost stories myself so i kind of avioded that and went on to another topic. the next day, everyone started to gather around me wherever i go, asked me bout my personal life, how is it in the army and stuff. there were a bunch of rowdy kids who didn't show much respect to the ltcs and sometimes me so i tried to not talk to them so much and rather spent time talking with people who can behave alot better. oh ya, before going on to that, let me share with u what happened at the barber shop on the 2nd day, around 1 plus.. a group of i think 40 people got picked out from the whole company of 6 platoons to have their hair cut for obvious reason. out of which, i can only recognise or rather remember 3 guys. henry, jake and another one in which i didn't ask for his name. jake is the only one from kent ridge in my platoon so he's like always alone and not talking to anyone. quite a charming kid but just too quiet. at the barber shop, the 2nd guy who went in to cut requested for 4321, referring to almost bmt kind of standard. i can't believe he actually wanted to shave everything off. since jake was the third one, i think he placed a bet with his friends outside the barber to cut the same thing. i was quite impressed with his courage because that was his first time shaving his hair off and he could stand watching his hair dropping off. after the haircut, he visited the toilet like once every 10 mins. henry had some trouble with the barber. he kind of challenged the ltcs by saying that the warrant officer outside said that it wasn't necessary to have high slope at the back and he went on with comments like the warrant's instruction can override the ltcs. then the barber got quite pissed and said that the barber's order is higher than the warrant. throughout the haircut, that poor boy was sulking. heh, forgive me for saying this but i suppose this is a rather typical acs attitude. :P anyway, i went out to talk to him after i saw him sitting down at a corner like feeling really pissed about what happened. after some persuasion, he decided to let the matter go and enjoy the rest of the camp. who would have guessed that he was in my platoon. the last guy came from some other platoon. i went to talk to him because he looked really adorable, small in size and rather plump. as we talked , he asked if i could help him get mineral water since he wasn't allowed to leave his seat unless authorised by the ltcs. since then, he greeted me everytime he saw me walking past. alright, back to the third day. it was the day that determined whether they could get their ranks. everyone was quite stressed. i followed them through the stations and at the rifle handling station, as the examiner tested them for the immediate action drills, i realised that i made a mistake for one of the drills but it wasn't exactly wrong. anyway, the examiner looked at me so i went there to explain that it was my fault and requested for him to not deduct any points. luckily, that guy happened to me one of the few ltcs that i talked to so he sort of like agreed to do as i said. for the rest of the drills, my platoon did really well as expected. heh when everything was over, it was nighttime already. they catered 1/2 hr for pc talk but my dear pc got nothing to say and since i was around, he looked at me and expect me to talk to them. so, the group of rowdy guys asked me to tell ghost stories again. this time, it was unaviodable so ya. it went on for 45 mins before they had to go back to their bunks to bathe and prepare for tomorrow. since it was like the last night, i went up to their bunks to chat since they invited me. lights off timing was suppose to be at 10.30pm but i stayed longer and decided to bend the rules abit. one of my cadets informed the rest of the platoon that i was at the last bunk so more than half of the platoon came over to listen to my stories once again. before going up, i did my qt and sort of asked God for His opinion because firstly, saying ghost stories will instill fear in yourself and secondly, it involves alot of false believe which is conflicting to what is taught in the bible. anyway, i read on psalms and God reassured me that he will give me strength to block off all the spiritual stuff and at the same time, he challenged me to share about what happened in my mob trip. since it was like ghost stories and spiritual warfare consists of creepy stuff as well, it sort of make sense. it was hard to convey this message but i didn't managed to have a proper closure because they were more interested in the spirits and what they do more than anything else. shortly after, one of the female ltc opened the window and saw a huge crowd and chased everyone back to their beds so ya, that was it. at first, all of us intended to sleep at that bunk after the stories because all the guys were quite scared too but too bad.. the next day morning, the warrant officer came to talk to qn regarding this matter because the ltc complained. lucky nothing was said about me, maybe because i blended into the crowd. this was like the last day and i thought they would just let it go. after some talk, there was AAR (after action review). all the ltcs were not allowed to partcipate since it was about feedback regarding the planning of the camp and them. the warrant used this opportunity to teach the cadets about how they should have a goal and make sure they are willing to go all the way to achieve it. then came the last part, the ltcs. he asked whether they liked their ltcs and who they liked best. most of the platoon shouted for their madam hazimah because she's quite cute looking. then my platoon shouted my name and i was like shocked but at the same time happy, in fact, estatic. erm, im quite lazy to update bout the rest of it so i shall proceed to the last part. everyone was packing their bags and falling in. my platoon was the last to fall in and i left before everyone was down. i wanted to say bye to them for the very last time but my friends were like telling me not to bother since after awhile they will forget about me. to a certain extend, i know that's true, especially for guys. some of them saw me from a distance and came to shake my hands and thanked me. was hoping that people that i showed more attention to will bid me farewell but they didn't. i felt really sian after that and just wanted to go back to my own camp to bathe before going jurong point for dinner. at jurong point, qn suggested to go kfc and when we got there, jake was with his friends. he told me that he was one of the 10 from my platoon who got 2nd sgt and thanked me after that. u know after that, i felt much better since at least 1 of the 4 that i showed more attention to thank me. and one last thing, on the last night, the hottest girl in camp wanted to get to know me so i was quite flattered but eh, i didn't gave her my number cuz i dunno, don't think it was appropriate. what an idiot!! ahhhh Jesus is Love |
