my friend invited me along with 3 other non christian friend to his church to take part for this amazing race around singapore. i thought it was kind of like a sure win thing since we will be competing with the youth group. junzhi was super cautious when he talks to people because he was so scared that people will come as a group and try to convert him. sean and chan how were more interested in the food and the prize. for me, i was neutral, i wanted to win but not really very badly.
the people from pg's church wasn't that warm, i realised that everyone just sticked to their own clique of friends. only the leaders bother to really walk around and say hello to new friends that kinda thing. first impression of that church was that the size of their youth group is really small and they made it feel really small by just sitting around and not going around to mix with others.
the committee start off the programme with some ice breakers. i thought that was a really good idea because it shows how friendly and fun the church is. moreover, in case there are people who intend to leave early, they know how fun the people there are.
once the whistle was blown for the race to start, ALL the groups ran off to the mrt. since we were suppose to go to the same place, we had to be really fast to stay at the top 3. actually we weren't expecting people to run off so soon thus we walked out of the church gracefully, unlike the rest of the group. gradually, we got a bit stressed out by people around us so we started running as well. too bad we missed the train and let 2-3 teams got ahead of us.
our first station was at national library. it was extremely retarded because right after we got to that place and got our second clue, we had to run off to smu accountancy block to find the 3rd clue. for a moment i thought we would have to do some stuff before we could obtain the clue. well, perhaps they wanted to illustrate the simplicity of life. hah!
at smu, we were given a choice of either finding a page that describes amazing race from a very thick book or that we could go basement and take 2 photos with background the same as the hint given to us at the basement of the smu building. (they took a portion of some object and gave us as hints)
that was quite an easy task. by the time we reached our 4th clue, we realised that we were ahead of the others. at uob building, we found our station masters and guess what, it was a road block and we had to wait for the second team to perform the task together. we felt really cheated but what can we do? like what my friend said, buy a bottle of nutella and dip your thumb in before putting it in your mouth. the second team consists of 4 girls who represented their school track team. they were really full of energy and have great staminas. picture this, a bunch of girls catching up with 5 army guys who trained like twice a week and managed to clear the army half marathon. thats like pure insulting. then, we were even more determined to win them.
our 5th clue was to travel to ikea, the one near red hill. the girls happened to study at cresent girls so that place was kinda like their home ground. we followed them to ikea since we expected them to use the shortcut. anyway, after getting off the bus, my team ran faster than them so we got the clue first but they managed to clear the task faster than us cuz of pure luck. we were suppose to look for one of the two people in the building and just so happen that when they went down to the first floor, that guy that we were suppose to look for came out.
we were quite disheartened when we saw that the girls got on the bus and left without us but hey, we caught up because the next destination was where people of my age will go to, the cosy place near indoor stadium. most people will take train to kallang and walk from there but we were smart enough to got off at cityhall and took a bus that will drop us somewhere really near. once again, we were leading.
next, we went off to marina park. its located at marina bay mrt station, a park further in, before the steamboat place. we spent really long there before we could finish the tasks assigned to us. the cresent group caught up and then, we headed back to the final checkpoint together. they were dang retarded la. we saw them chasing after the bus from afar and they thought we didn't see us so they hid on the bus and hoped that we thought it was the wrong bus and will start panicking and go to another bus stop or something. could see that they looked really disappointed that we got on.
the last checkpoint was rather far away from the mrt station. my team were quite far ahead and thus, we managed to clear our task faster, with skill. so overall, my team won!! we waited for the girls at the church, wanted to cheer for them but after some discussion, we decided to fool them. so, we ran up the slope, just when the girls reach the church, we will try to overtake them and then declare again that we were the champion. heh, sometimes guys can be so revengeful and childish i know. that make us guys, full or pride and stuff. glad that i got 30 dollars voucher from swensons. brought my family out to eat the next day. my grandmother was really happy that day and so, we are going to plan for another ice cream trip at haagen daz. yummy!!
and in case u were wondering how come im at home, well, its another story. to cut the long story short, its a really bad day. argh
